Roof replacement

Roof replacement, from bare deck to ridge cap.

When a roof is past repairing, we replace the whole system, not just the shingles you can see. Every layer is planned for snow, wind and sun in Eastern Idaho.

What a replacement includes

  • Tear-off down to the deck, with every soft or rotted board replaced and listed on the invoice
  • Ice and water shield from each eave up past the warm wall line, plus in valleys and around penetrations
  • Synthetic underlayment across the rest of the deck
  • New drip edge, step flashing and pipe boots; chimney flashing rebuilt, not caulked over
  • Balanced intake and ridge ventilation so the attic stays cold in winter and cooler in summer
  • Shingles nailed to the manufacturer's high-wind pattern, so the manufacturer's warranty applies
  • Daily cleanup, a magnetic nail sweep and a final photo set of the finished roof

Signs it is time to replace

  • Shingles curling or cupping across more than one slope
  • Bare patches where the granules have washed into the gutters
  • Leaks in more than one place, or the same leak coming back
  • Daylight or water stains on the roof deck from inside the attic
  • A sagging ridge or soft spots underfoot

Not sure? An inspection tells you whether a repair will buy you a few good years.

Choosing a material

We install both, and the estimate explains which fits your house and budget.

Architectural asphalt shingles

The most common choice on Idaho Falls homes. Good value, many colors, and impact-resistant versions are available where hail is a worry.

Standing seam metal

Costs more up front, sheds snow, shrugs off wind and lasts a long time. See metal roofing for when it is worth it.

Roof replacement questions

Serving Idaho Falls, Ammon, Rexburg and Rigby.

How long does a roof replacement take?

Most single-family homes take one to two days. Steep roofs, multiple layers to remove or a lot of rotted decking can add a day, and the estimate says so up front.

Can you put new shingles over the old ones?

We don't. A layover hides rot, adds weight under heavy snow and skips the ice and water shield at the eaves, which is the layer that stops ice dam leaks.

Do I need to be home on install day?

No. We need access to an outdoor outlet and the driveway. Move cars out of the garage and take fragile things off walls on the inside, since hammering can shake them.
